Former England striker Michael Owen has suggested Barcelona think carefully before considering a move for Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane.
While Owen has made it clear that he still has great respect for Kane as a footballer, the former Real Madrid man believes signing the English forward would be a financial mistake at this stage of his career.

Speaking to Goal (h/t SPORT), Owen expressed surprise at reports linking Barcelona and other clubs to Kane.

He explained that while the Bayern forward continues to perform at an elite level, the long-term value of the deal has not increased at all.
“The problem with Harry Kane is that while he’s still an incredible player, signing him is a waste of money.
“You sign him now, but how many years can you sign him for? One, two, three, four years? I don’t know.

“Obviously, he’s not showing any signs of aging, but to pay these fees for a few years of performance seems unbelievable to me,” he explained.

The former England striker went a step further and said Kane should never have left English football in the first place.
“I wanted him to stay in the Premier League. I felt he had all the cards and gave them to them at a very low price. I said that at the time.”

It must be noted that Kane has begun to quash speculation over a potential summer exit following recent talks.
The Bayern forward has made it clear that he has no intention of activating his €65 million release clause in June. Instead, he is already negotiating a new contract with the German club.

Although Kane has explored options in recent weeks, even holding conversations with Barcelona over the possibility of replacing Robert Lewandowski in the future, the English striker now appears determined to stay in the Bundesliga.
