Flick makes 28-year-old star his top priority despite Deco’s alternative plan

Barcelona manager Hansi Flick is reportedly determined to keep Marcus Rashford at the club beyond the end of the season.

The 28-year-old forward joined Barcelona on loan from Manchester United earlier this season and his performances have quickly established him as an important part of the team’s attacking system.

While the move was initially seen as a temporary solution, Rashford’s impact has now led to serious discussions about a permanent move.

However, there is not complete agreement on the matter within the club’s sporting department.

Sporting director Deco is reportedly assessing alternative options on the left wing ahead of the summer transfer window.

Pedro Neto is one of the names being considered and he is being watched across Europe for his performances.

According to “The Touchline”, the German has told Deco that if Barcelona wants to strengthen their attack on the left, his first choice is Rashford and no one else.

For Flick, the England international’s profile fits perfectly with the style of play he wants to implement.

However, negotiations with United could still be complicated, but Barcelona currently have a significant advantage in the form of a purchase option included in the loan deal.

If the Catalan club chooses to activate the clause at the end of the season, they can sign Rashford permanently for around €30 million.

With terms already agreed during loan negotiations, completing the transfer does not require lengthy discussions between the clubs.

Even so, Barcelona are in no rush to make a decision.

With around two months of games left in the season, club leadership want to assess how the season will play out before confirming any long-term commitments.
