Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank spoke to the media for the first time Thursday about the team’s recent personnel changes in the front office.
Hours after the season ended, Blank fired head coach Raheem Morris and general manager Terry Fontenot.

He said he fired them purely because of performance. Blank said it has nothing to do with signing Kirk Cousins to a big contract and then drafting Michael Penix Jr.
“At the end of the day, I don’t think we’re at the level we could be at,” he said.
Falcons owner said Penix Jr. is the team’s quarterback and they will see if Kirk Cousins returns.
In addition to hiring a new general manager and head coach, Blank said he will also hire a new president of football.
Channel 2 Sports Director Zach Klein More than a dozen league sources spoke to Wednesday Channel 2 Action News 6:00 p.m. About the front-runners at each position.

Former Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan is at the top of the list, sources told Klein. Blank confirmed Thursday that Ryan will interview for the position this week.
Sources also told Klein that Chicago Bears assistant general manager Ian Cunningham and former Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski are the front-runners for the general manager and head coaching jobs.
