Falcons complete third interview for general manager vacancy

The Atlanta Falcons have completed another interview for their general manager vacancy, speaking with Chicago Bears assistant general manager Ian Cunningham on Friday afternoon. Cunningham had previously interviewed for the team’s football president vacancy, which was ultimately filled by Matt Ryan.

The Bears hired Cunningham in 2022, and he was a key part of the team’s turnaround. In 2025, Chicago ended a five-year playoff drought and won the playoffs for the first time since 2011.

The team made upgrading the offensive line a priority this offseason, signing former Falcons center Drew Dahlman in free agency and trading All-Pro linebacker Joe Thuney.

Plus, Chicago took advantage of having the No. 1 pick in back-to-back seasons. After trading the No. 1 pick to the Carolina Panthers in 2023, the Bears selected Caleb Williams with the No. 1 pick in 2024.

Cunningham spent five years in the Philadelphia Eagles’ front office before joining the Bears in 2022. He began serving as Philadelphia University’s director of scouting in 2017 and was promoted to director of player personnel in 2021. Cunningham began his career as an assistant and area scout with the Ravens and spent nine years in Baltimore.

The Falcons have completed three rounds of interviews for their general manager vacancy. The team spoke with Houston Texans assistant general manager James Lipfelt and Pittsburgh Steelers assistant general manager Andy Weddle on Thursday.
