Kenny Minch isn’t going to Lincoln after all.
A day after initially committing to play at Nebraska next season, Minch changed his commitment Monday night. He will now play for Kentucky and will play under new head coach Will Stein next season, according to ESPN’s Max Olson.
Minch played in six games for the Fighting Irish last season, finishing with 196 yards passing and a completion rate of just under 77 percent. The redshirt sophomore, who has two years of eligibility left, officially entered the portal Friday with hopes of becoming a starter in 2026.

He told ESPN on Sunday that he will play at Nebraska next season, which would make the Cornhuskers a top target among transfer quarterbacks in the portal. He would also be a very solid replacement for Lincoln after two-year starter Dylan Raiola went down with a season-ending injury.
But now, Munch is headed to Lexington. He will play for Stein, who was hired last month to replace longtime head coach Mark Stoops after a successful tenure as Oregon State’s offensive coordinator.
Kentucky went just 5-7 last season and failed to reach a bowl game for the second straight year under Stoops, who took over in 2013. While he led the team to two 10-win seasons, they have failed to win more than seven games in each of the past four seasons and have fallen sharply in the SEC.

While it’s unclear what prompted the switch, Stein has now found a big-name star to help the Wildcats get off to a fast start next fall. Matt Rhule will also have to start over again in his search for Raiola’s replacement.
