McCoy, 53, joined the Broncos in 2009 as quarterbacks coach and was promoted to offensive coordinator in 2010. He was named head coach of the Chargers in 2013 after four seasons in Denver. McCoy went 27-37 with the Chargers but was fired after the 2016 season.

McCoy later returned to the Broncos as offensive coordinator for a second time in 2017. After being fired by Vance Joseph, McCoy spent time with the Arizona Cardinals (2018) and Jacksonville Jaguars (2022-2024) before joining the Tennessee Titans as a senior offensive assistant in 2025.

Tennessee named McCoy as interim head coach after firing Brian Callahan last October. The Titans went 2-9 under McCoy, who did not return after the season. McCoy is now back with the Chargers ahead of the 2026 season.
