Without Mobley, the Cavaliers lost to the Charlotte Hornets and twice to the Chicago Bulls. While the Cavaliers were rewarded against the Hornets and defeated the New Orleans Pelicans, they still need a healthy roster, which is why Mobley’s potential return will be important.

Mobley is known for returning earlier than expected

Mobley was initially expected to miss two to four weeks after missing the Cavaliers’ last five games. Christmas was 13 days away from the onset of calf tightness, so Mobley was well ahead of schedule.

While he’s listed as questionable, many Cavs fans are a little uneasy about his quick return. Calf injuries have been a problem in the NBA in recent years because they can lead to Achilles tendon tears.

Over the course of his career, Mobley has defied the typical return-to-play schedule. Inside Shot’s Danny Cunningham noted that Mobley is a quick recovery player, and his potential recovery from a calf injury is a prime example.

On Christmas Day, the Cavaliers take on the Knicks in what will be one of the most important games of the season. Cleveland and New York were preseason favorites, but only the latter has lived up to expectations.

With Mobley potentially joining the team on Christmas Day, the Cavaliers could pull off a surprise win over the second-seeded Knicks. The Cavaliers are currently in seventh place, but if they can make a huge improvement over the Knicks, they could become a better team.
