Eugene Police arrest 9 amid ‘unruly’ St. Patrick’s Day weekend party

Eugene police arrested nine people on East 14th Avenue between Hilliard and Patterson streets on March 14 as about 1,500 college partygoers descended on the neighborhood, officials said.

Law enforcement officials responded to the growing crowd near West University around 1:30 p.m. and asked motorists to avoid the area as the crowd, mostly made up of people in their 20s, spilled into the streets.

Police said residents in the area reported people urinating in public and “arguments” with neighbors.

“We also received calls from members of the public concerned about drunken pedestrians in traffic and individuals trying to open the doors of passing vehicles,” a Eugene police spokesman said in a news release. “Medical attention was required for a male who fell and hit his head.”

Around 5 p.m., police began urging crowds to leave the streets. Police arrested three people, took them to the Lane County Jail and charged them with criminal trespass, disorderly conduct, interfering with an officer, possession of an open container, resisting arrest and providing false information to an officer

On March 14, Eugene police arrested at least nine people in connection with a party on a street near West University.

Police also investigated a home in the 600 block of 14th Avenue East that “appeared to be the most active source.” Officials called the party “unruly” in a press release. Six people were arrested there under a noise prohibition and cited for unruly assembly.
