Enzo Fernandez coy on Chelsea future following PSG loss

Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez has remained tight-lipped about a move from Stamford Bridge after being eliminated from the Champions League by Paris Saint-Germain.

The Argentine midfielder has been linked with a move away from Chelsea in recent weeks, with reports suggesting he wants to leave if the club fails to qualify for the Champions League.

The Chelsea ace has not ruled out an exit at the end of the season following defeat to PSG.

“Am I guaranteed to stay at Chelsea next season? I don’t know,” said Fernandez (via ESPN Argentina ).

“Now I’m focused on here and then there’s the World Cup, we’ll see.”

Without fire there wouldn’t be so much smoke. The ongoing chatter over Fernandes’ future could well suggest they are looking to make a move this summer.

Fernandes would suit any top club. He can serve as a deep-lying playmaker, a batting pacemaker, or even as a player behind the striker. He is a truly unique midfielder.

The 25-year-old has been linked with a move to Real Madrid, who would welcome him with open arms.

Fernandez could be the deep playmaker Real Madrid have missed since the departure of Toni Kroos.

For Chelsea, it’s not just the result that’s at issue. Building a team worthy of an elite core is a failure.

Fernandez, Reece James, Cole Palmer and Moises Caicedo represent the backbone capable of competing at the top level.

However, the production around them often falls short in terms of quality, consistency and football intelligence.

This imbalance will not go unnoticed forever. The ambition of top players is as important as their ability, and when the standards around them drop, patience wears thin.

If Chelsea continue to drift and fail to reach this level across the squad, they risk growing increasingly frustrated in the dressing room.
