Tesla fans, big news coming straight from you Elon Musk’s table. It looks like he’s planning to increase the subscription price for the brand’s unique Full Self-Driving software, a fairly advanced driver assistance system. It can actually manage braking, lane changing, steering, navigation, and even automatic parking at red lights with the driver’s supervision.
It looks like this is all thanks to major upgrades and feature edits, which guarantee that the software becomes increasingly powerful. According to Business Insider, this appears to have ended up costing over $100.
Elon Musk announces that FSD subscription price will increase in the future
To elaborate on the decision, Tesla CEO Elon Musk explained it in an X (formerly Twitter) post on Friday, saying: “I should also mention that as FSD functionality improves, the price of $99 per month for supervised FSD will increase. The big jump in value is when you can use your phone or sleep during the entire ride (unsupervised FSD).”
Previously, most of Tesla’s models came standard with Autopilot software, which is available to all users. But things appear to be about to change. After all, the company’s website now makes it clear that Tesla will only offer traffic-aware cruise control as standard and nothing else. Additionally, customers can choose to purchase the entire system directly through the Tesla website for a one-time payment of $8,000.
However, as of February 14, this option will no longer be available to anyone. These moves appear to have caused a backlash from some Tesla fans. Some of them even expressed their views through X. Some of them also explained that even the Toyota Corolla comes with a basic lane keeping system, which Tesla does not offer. Tesla representatives, meanwhile, have yet to respond to the backlash and additional accusations.
