Elden Ring Nightreign is launching its highly anticipated two-player mode this week. Developer FromSoftware confirmed on Friday that it will be adding a two-player adventure mode to the cooperative action-survival game as part of a new July 30 patch. “Elden Ring Nightreign” currently supports single player and three-player cooperation. Last week, FromSoftware also confirmed that the game has sold over 5 million copies.
Elden Ring Nightreign gets a two-player mode
Patch 1.02 will roll out on all platforms on Wednesday. The developer posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday that in addition to Duos Expeditions, the update will also bring quality of life UI improvements, including more relic filtering options.
Alongside the announcement, FromSoftware also shared a trailer for the two-player mode, showing off bosses and challenges for a two-person team to take on Limveld.
When Elden Ring Nightreign launched in single-player and three-player co-op on May 30, two-player mode was one of the most popular features. Days before launch, game director Junya Ishizaki said that Nightreign was balanced for a three-player co-op experience from the start, but that the studio was considering adding a two-player mode to the game as a post-launch feature update.
Ishizaki said that the two-player mode was “overlooked” during development in favor of adjusting the game to a three-player co-op and solo experience.
Last month, FromSoftware announced that Elden Ring Nightreign had sold over 3.5 million copies and confirmed that a two-player mode would be available in a future update. Since the game’s release, the studio has released a series of patches to balance the difficulty of the single-player mode, adjust boss encounters, and bring other improvements to the game. FromSoftware is also developing a DLC that will be released later this year.
Last week, the Japanese studio also announced that Elden Ring Nightreign had passed the 5 million-copy sales milestone. This independent multiplayer cooperative action survival game set in the “Elden Ring” universe has sold more than 5 million units in less than two months after its launch. In addition, FromSoftware confirmed that Shadow of the Erdtree, the Elden Ring expansion released last year, has sold more than 10 million copies.
“Elden Ring Nightreign” launched on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series S/X on May 30, selling more than 2 million copies on its first day.
