‘Dyche is seeing things that he hasn’t really liked’

BBC Radio Nottingham’s Forest pundit Colin Foley spoke to the Shut Up and Show More Football podcast following Sean Dyche’s fiery post-match interview following the FA Cup defeat to Wrexham.

Dyche described Forest’s first-half performance as “unacceptable” and said his players needed to “look in the mirror” after losing the penalty shootout.

“He also mentioned training, so he obviously questioned some of the attitude,” Frey said. “Again, the word ‘attitude’, commitment to the cause, commitment to training, all of those are words that Forest need this season but they also had those words last season.

“It was one of those things that was a bit missing, not for every player, but for some of them, Sean Dyche obviously saw something that he didn’t really like.”

Frey also discussed how last week’s cup rotation highlighted the failure of last summer’s signings, and how that will impact the volume of business that is likely to take place in this month’s transfer window.

“A lot of the players who paid huge sums to sign last summer can’t be forced to join,” Frey added.

“And then Friday night reinforced that. Given the amount of money spent last summer, it’s going to raise some questions about how much Forest can do in this window.

“I don’t think we can expect anywhere near the level we saw in the summer. And I think, although you can never rule it out with Forest, I don’t think it’s going to be that busy at the end of the transfer window unless they’re going to be entering the loan market in a big way.”
