Dundee United 1-1 Kilmarnock: What the manager said

Dundee United manager Jim Goodwin told BBC Scotland: “The end result felt a bit like a failure given the way we equalized and the chances we had in the game.

“I think it should have been a pretty easy and straightforward win but unfortunately I’m standing here talking about dropping points from the lead again and not being able to watch the game.

“That’s the main frustration.

“I can’t say we didn’t target that situation in training, defending the penalty area. I tried a lot of combinations with the back three and I have to say the back three defended the penalty area brilliantly for 90 minutes. Everything Kilmarnock threw at us from through balls, set pieces, wide passes, I thought we defended really well.

“I don’t know if it was a lack of concentration towards the end of the game. But to have a Kilmarnock striker break into the box unmarked and get a header was criminal for us. We need to be more aggressive and there needs to be a challenge to make sure we finish the game with all three points.

“I thought over the course of the game we performed well against a Kilmarnock team who have been scoring goals at will lately. We controlled the conditions better.

“If we had won the game 2-0 or 3-0 I don’t think there would be any complaints, but we haven’t stayed the course and dropped a few more points from a winning position.”
