Duke assistant Evan Bradds set to take Belmont head coaching position

Jon Shaye will be looking for a new assistant this offseason.

Evan Bradds, who served as an assistant coach at Duke this season, will serve as the head coach of his alma mater, Belmont, after the Blue Devils compete in the NCAA tournament.

Bratz is the Bruins’ all-time leading scorer with 1,937 points in his career at the University of Nashville from 2013-17. He was named the Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Year in both the 2015-16 and 2016-17 seasons.

The 31-year-old Blades quickly transitioned into coaching, starting his career with the Boston Celtics G League affiliate, the Maine Red Claws, before spending four seasons with the Celtics under Brad Stevens. Blades then spent three seasons with the Utah Jazz before Scheer brought him to Durham last offseason.

Belmont won the Missouri Valley Conference this season but was upset by Drake in the first round of the conference tournament. Casey Alexander, who led the Bruins the past seven seasons, left after the season to take the head coaching job at Kansas State.
