Drunk driver, passenger arrested after crash damages public property

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – Two men were arrested after they were involved in a drunken single-vehicle crash in Horizon City earlier this week, causing damage to public property and then fleeing the scene on foot, Horizon Police said in a news release.

Just before 3am on Sunday, December 28, police responded to a reported disturbance involving a single-vehicle collision in the area of ​​South Darlington Road and Claret Cup.

During the investigation, police determined that a vehicle was involved in a crash that resulted in damage to public property and a temporary power outage in the surrounding community.

The vehicle’s passengers, 20-year-olds Andrixon Javier Montero and Iverson Javier Prieto Montero, fled the scene on foot but were later found nearby with the assistance of partner agencies, according to police.

Further investigation determined Montero was the driver of the vehicle and Prieto Montero was the passenger.

Officers also observed signs of intoxication on both suspects and determined the incident involved a moving traffic violation, police said.

Montero was charged with driving while intoxicated and striking a fixture, and his bail was set at $7,500. Prieto Montero was charged with public intoxication and posted a $97 bond. Both men were taken to the El Paso County Detention Facility without incident, police added.

“The Horizon City Police Department reminds the community that impaired driving and leaving the scene of an accident is life-threatening and can result in serious legal consequences,” the release reads.
