“There’s a flu shot every year. It doesn’t always work. That’s why it’s been so controversial lately,” Oz said on Newsmax.

It’s worth pointing out that new flu vaccines are introduced every year because flu viruses mutate over time. This year’s vaccine isn’t a perfect match for the version of the flu currently circulating, but experts still recommend getting it to prevent the spread of the flu and reduce its severity if you get it. If you haven’t gotten your flu shot yet, it’s not too late to get one.

After giving up on getting the flu shot, Oz continues to encourage people to take care of themselves so that their bodies can “fight” the flu even if they get it. He advises people to prioritize “getting in the sun,” “taking some vitamin D,” following the MAHA Initiative on diet and getting enough sleep.

In response, medical professionals such as Jonathan Reiner, a professor of interventional cardiology in Medicine and Surgery, expressed frustration that Oz did not encourage people to get the flu shot as a preventive measure.

Emergency room physician Brian Goldman, MD, was more blunt, tweeting simply: “Bullshit.”

Another person wrote: “He should tell this to the 250 patients in my hospital’s emergency room last night.”
