GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) — A double bag at first base, instituted in 2025 to make baseball safer, was at the center of a fielding error Wednesday night that helped No. 9 Florida extend the nation’s longest active winning streak to 13 games.
Florida A&M pitcher Cody Williams hit first baseman Josue Figueroa just wide on a two-out grounder by the Gators’ Colton Schwarz. Figueroa still appeared to have time to step onto first base when he caught the ball on foul ground, putting the team out of action in the bottom of the seventh inning.

However, Figueroa did not step on the white part of the base that was in fair territory. Instead, he only touches the green portion of the foul zone that was added to help minimize collisions on first base plays.
Schwartz was safe and Florida scored the final two points of the game en route to a 7-5 win.
