Donovan Mitchell scores 28 points, Cavaliers beat Spurs 130-117

CLEVELAND (AP) — Donovan Mitchell had 28 points and eight assists, Jaylen Tyson scored 16 of his 24 points in the third quarter, and the Cleveland Cavaliers rallied to beat the San Antonio Spurs 130-117 on Friday night.

Evan Mobley had 17 points and 10 rebounds and Dean Wade added 12 points and eight rebounds for Cleveland, which won for the second time in its past six games and ended a two-game skid at Rocket Arena. Mobley and Wade also had five assists each.

The Cavaliers, who trailed by 10 points in the first half, went on a 23-4 run in the third quarter to lead 98-81. Tyson scored 11 points in 5 1/2 minutes of offense and finished with 44 points to help the Cavaliers lead 108-91.

Devin Vassell scored 25 of the Spurs’ 28 points and hit seven three-pointers in the first half. De’Aaron Fox scored 25 points and 9 assists, and Keldon Johnson came off the bench to score 14 points.

Vassell scored 13 points in the first quarter and 25 points in the first half, a season high for the San Antonio Spurs. In 18 days of games in nine cities, the Spurs achieved a record of 4 wins and 3 losses. The Spurs will play only one game at home between November 21 and December 16.

Spurs star Victor Wembanyama missed his 10th straight game with left calf tightness, while guard Stephon Castle missed his ninth straight game with left hip soreness. Coach Mitch Johnson said both are “definitely moving in the right direction.”

Center Luke Kornet also did not play after spraining his left ankle in Orlando on Thursday.

The Cavaliers were missing three starters, point guard Darius Garland (left big toe soreness), center Jarrett Allen (right ring finger strain) and small forward Sam Merrill (right hand strain).
