DONE DEAL: Yang seals loan to Coventry City

Tottenham Hotspur’s loan switch continues. We wrote yesterday that Yang Min-hyuk would be heading to Coventry City on loan after being recalled from Portsmouth, and those reports have now officially become a reality:

By all accounts, Young performed extremely well during his time at Pompey, scoring three goals and assisting one in 16 games; it is that last number that is why Spurs have chosen to make this move. Young started just behind Josh Murphy in the pecking order at Portsmouth, so playing time was sparse. His motivation to play is waning as the team sinks into a potential relegation battle.

The fact that Coventry City, who are top of the Championship, want Young is a huge vote of confidence for him. He may not get any more playing time than he did at Portsmouth, but being part of a team with high aspirations can do wonders, especially after winning the league in 2019-20 and who are sorely lacking wide cover as they seek promotion to the Premier League.

As for Yang, here’s what he had to say about the move:

I’m happy and excited to be joining a club with such a rich tradition and history.

When I played against Coventry I really felt the positive atmosphere within the team and it made me even more excited to be part of this club.

The manager explained very clearly how he planned to use me and how I would fit into the team, which gave me a lot of confidence that this was the right place for me.

I want to help the team achieve its goals and to do that I need to adapt as quickly as possible, show what I can do on the pitch and prove why I’m here.

Good luck to Young – I’m sure you’ll do well at Coventry!
