The Miami Dolphins currently have no head coaching vacancy.
Head coach Mike McDaniel survived the infamous “Black Monday” and still has his job.
However, after John Harbaugh was fired by the Baltimore Ravens earlier this week, reports emerged that the Dolphins owner had a “real affinity” for Harbaugh.
Of course, Dolphins owner Stephen Ross is close to the Harbaugh family. Not only did Rose attempt to hire John’s brother, Jim Harbaugh, as the Dolphins’ head coach in 2011, but he is also a large donor to the University of Michigan, where Jim served as head coach from 2015 to 2023.

That coupled with ESPN’s Adam Schefter stating that more than one team without a head coaching vacancy has reached out to Harbaugh suggests the Dolphins may indeed be interested.
However, Barry Jackson of the Sun-Sentinel, a veteran Dolphins reporter and with numerous sources close to or within the organization, recently said the Dolphins “have not contacted” Harbaugh, according to his sources.
So, who should you believe?
Well, the likely story here is that the Dolphins may indeed have some interest in Harbaugh, but have yet to make actual contact with him. While this wouldn’t be considered tampering since Harbaugh is not currently employed, the Dolphins may also want to respect McDaniel’s future and not kick him to the curb until a deal is in place.

The team is also currently conducting general manager interviews, and the topic of the head coach will definitely affect the team’s final decision to hire the candidate. If the new general manager likes McDaniel, the prospect of Harbaugh coaching in South Florida next season is difficult to see.
Speculation will continue as the offseason unfolds, but there is no evidence yet. The Dolphins will continue the process however they see fit and let the chips fall.
