Disgraced actor John Alford has died in prison, two months after he was jailed for sexually assaulting two teenage girls.

“As with all deaths in custody, an investigation will be carried out by the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman,” the spokesman added.

Alford, whose real name is John Shannon, was jailed for eight-and-a-half years for sexually assaulting two teenagers, aged 15 and 14, the BBC reported.

During the trial at St Albans Crown Court last year, the jury heard how Alford bought a bottle of vodka for the two girls, which they drank at a friend’s house in Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire, before sexually assaulting them in April 2022.

During the trial, prosecutor Chris White also told the jury that Alford “had full knowledge of the ages of the girls but he chose to take advantage of them – giving them alcohol and then committing sexual offenses against them,” according to the BBC.

Alford has denied the crimes, telling jurors the charges were a “set-up” and there was no DNA evidence to support the assault charge. The Guardian.

The disgraced actor was ultimately found guilty of four counts of sexual intercourse with a 14-year-old girl, as well as sexual assault and penetrative penetration in relation to a 15-year-old girl.

When the verdict was handed down, Alford shouted: “That’s wrong, I didn’t do it!” according to the BBC.
