Finally, regarding your future: Nico Harrison was relieved of his duties as general manager of the Dallas Mavericks a few months ago. Your name keeps popping up in the media as a possible successor. Is this something you’re currently considering? Dirk Nowitzki: I don’t think I’m considering being a general manager right now. I always thought that when I retired, I would immediately go into the front office of the Mavericks. However, after my career ended, the longer I was out of the industry, the less interesting it became to me. I think it’s a very intense job, 24/7, all year round. While players and coaches have their seasons over and take a break, the general manager’s job still continues with the draft, free agency and trade deadlines. It’s definitely a full-time job that I can’t imagine doing right now. I like my life now. I enjoy serving on Prime and the FIBA Player Council, but I still have plenty of time to spend with my family and kids. That’s why I don’t see a general manager role in the near future.
