Masala Games, the Ahmedabad-based indie developer behind Detective Dotson, has provided the game with detailed co-op features. This Indian mystery adventure game will offer different levels for two-player co-op, unlike the single-player game. Co-op play will also feature a cast of characters, each with their own unique abilities that can benefit players in specific scenarios. Dotson Detective was announced in March, received a gameplay trailer at the Future Games Show last month, and was later confirmed to launch on Xbox Series S/X consoles.

In an Xbox trailer back in June, Detective Dotson was confirmed to be getting couch co-op. In an Xbox Wire post on Monday, Masala Games CEO Shalin Shodhan detailed how the mode will work on Xbox Series S/X versions of the game.

Cooperative cases in “Detective Dotson” will have dedicated levels for two players to experience. These chests will complement separate single-player chests and will feature dynamic split-screen functionality for couch co-op play. “This means that the screen doesn’t split into two when you’re both in the same space. Instead, it only splits into two when you and your friend are far enough apart,” Shodhan explains. Detective Dotson’s co-op campaign will also let players choose their own unique characters with unique special abilities to help solve crimes.

According to the developers, the game’s co-op mode was built specifically for the current generation of Xbox consoles and was enabled with funding from the ID@Xbox Developer Accelerator Program (DAP).

Detective Dotson was first released in March with a demo available on Steam. The game was announced for Xbox Series S/X consoles in June with a new trailer.

This cozy mystery adventure game is inspired by Bollywood and Indian culture, and features pixel art-style visuals reminiscent of real-world Indian cities. Players will control a detective to take over the case, collect clues and solve the mystery. Detective Dotson will be available on Xbox Series S/X and PC (via Steam) early next year.
