The January transfer window has been a bit of a letdown for Liverpool after an eventful summer.
The Reds still have some glaring needs in the squad and while fans were hoping those gaps would be addressed in January, that has yet to happen.

There was another setback when Jeremie Frimpong went down injured during the Champions League win over Qarabag on Wednesday. Arne Slaughter later said he expected Frimpong to be out for “a few weeks” but with no clear timetable, fans are worried about who will replace him at right-back.
Slaughter provided some information on Frimpong’s injury during his speech on Friday and did not rule out a move before the transfer window closes.
According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool could still sign the player if the circumstances are right.
While specific targets are still unclear, Inter Milan’s Denzel Dumfries could be one to keep an eye on as the deadline approaches.

One of Europe’s top right-backs over the past five years, Dumfries has been out injured since mid-November.
But according to Semper Inter, he could be available again in February. The timing could be good for Liverpool as they deal with their own right-back situation.
Making things even more interesting are two recent tidbits from Italian journalists. Former Arsenal right-back Brooke Norton-Caffey is in talks to join Inter Milan before the deadline, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano said on Thursday night.
Beyond that, Milan journalist Marco Barzaghi pointed out that interest in Norton-Caffey will only come if Dumfries leaves.

Barzaghi said on his YouTube channel: “Be careful because there is talk in all sports of a possible big offer for Dumfries in the last days of the transfer window.
“Romano and [Gianluca] Di Marzio said just yesterday that Norton Caffey’s clubs are Juventus and Everton, not Inter Milan. But as our sources explain, Norton-Caffey is seen as a back-up option for Dumfries in the event Dumfries leaves. “
Dumfries could be a smart addition for Liverpool
The Dutchman could be considered by some as a potential signing as he is currently out of football for over two months while awaiting recovery.

Despite Liverpool’s need for an immediate right-back, signing Dumfries this month is a wise decision. Although he turns 30 in April, he still provides the Reds with a real short- to medium-term option.
Conor Bradley’s reliability remains a concern for Liverpool. There are so many health issues that this character needs another solid option.
Jeremie Frimpong could fill that void, but even then his talents are better suited to an attacking role. With Mohamed Salah’s future still in doubt, Frimpong is likely to move further.
Regardless of the current injury situation, Slott may see value in bringing in another right-back, and considering Dumfries is under contract until 2027, he could be an affordable and experienced solution to their current needs.

Dumfries has already developed strong links within the club’s Dutch side – he is particularly close with Cody Gakpo – which should help him settle in quickly if he does arrive mid-season. The more you think about it, the clearer it becomes that he ticks a lot of boxes that Liverpool need right now.
