Commuters of the Delhi Metro can now access the internet using free high-speed Wi-Fi at all its Yellow Line stations as DMRC launched the facility on Sunday. Officials said Delhi Metro Railway is working with a technology consortium to introduce this facility in metro trains (except the Airport Express) within a year.
In January 2020, the urban transport company launched high-speed Wi-Fi facility in the carriages of Airport Line trains connecting New Delhi and Dwarka Sector 21 stations.
This is the first such facility in a country in the South Asian region.
This 22.7 km long, most stylish line of the Delhi Metro network has 6 stations: New Delhi Station, Shivaji Stadium Station, Daulaikwan Station, Delhi Aerocity Station, IGI Airport Station and Dwarka Sector 21 Station.
In March 2020, the coronavirus pandemic hit the national capital, resulting in a prolonged shutdown of Delhi Metro services.
“DMRC has offered free Wi-Fi service on its Airport Line trains on a trial basis, which was suspended in 2020 due to Covid-19-induced restrictions and is now being restored in the next 10 to 15 days,” DMRC said in a statement.
In a bid to continuously enhance the travel experience of passengers, Delhi Metro has successfully launched free high-speed Wi-Fi service facility at all metro stations of Yellow Line or Line 2, from Samaypur Badli to HUDA City Centre, officials said, adding that efforts are on to extend the facility to stations on other corridors of the network.
DMRC said this high-speed service on the Yellow Line will be a special boon for students traveling to and from Delhi University’s North Delhi campus.
Officials said the service, coinciding with the festive season, has been launched on the line, which consists of 37 metro stations and runs mostly underground through one of the most congested areas of the city, covering Outer Delhi, North Delhi, Central Delhi, South Delhi and finally Gurgaon.
DMRC said more than 330 access points have been installed at these 37 stations to provide unexplained internet access to commuters.
Besides providing free Wi-Fi at metro stations across the network, DMRC is also working in partnership with Techno Sat Comm to introduce the facility within a year in metro trains, the statement said.
Officials say upgrading and installing the required access points on already operating trains is quite a challenging task.

Officials said OUI DMRC free high-speed Wi-Fi connectivity has been provided at all stations on the Blue Line of the metro network.
The Blue Line (Dwarka Sector 21-Noida Electronic City/Vaishali) consists of 50 metro stations in which more than 400 access points have been set up by DMRC, while more than 50 access points have been set up for the Airport Express to provide uninterrupted internet access, the statement said.
With the rollout of high-speed Wi-Fi at all stations on the Yellow Line, ‘OUI DMRC Free Wi-Fi’ is now available at 94 stations, including interchange facilities at New Delhi Metro stations on the network, officials said.
DMRC said the free Wi-Fi service is provided by a consortium led by M/S Techno Sat Comm.
It is said that if you face any problem while using the free Wi-Fi service at metro stations on all these lines, you can call the helpline 9541693693.
