Delhi Lockdown E-Pass: How to Apply Online for Travel During the Restriction

As daily COVID-19 cases continue to rise at a rapid pace, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has announced that the Delhi lockdown is in effect. While the government restricts normal activities and allows only essential services, certain individuals can apply for e-passes to travel during the national lockdown. The Delhi government website provides provisions for online application for e-passes for people in sectors such as banking, food delivery, pharmaceuticals and private security. The aim of limiting e-passes to a few departments is to reduce the movement of people and curb the spread of COVID-19 in the capital.

The lockdown in Delhi will come into effect from 10 pm on April 19 and will continue till 5 am on April 26, according to the Delhi government order conveyed to the public through a virtual press conference on Monday.

How to apply for e-pass during Delhi lockdown

Before knowing the steps on how to apply for e-pass during Delhi lockdown, it is important to note that e-pass will be available only to those related to essential services and will not be provided to individuals who just want to move out of their homes for entertainment or social meetings. If you already have a night/weekend curfew e-pass, you don’t need to reapply. Additionally, if essential services are within walking distance, no e-pass is required.

  1. Fill in your details such as phone number, name and address.

  2. Select the type of service you provide, and then select the days and times you need to be out for the service.

  3. Now upload the electronic copy of your government issued ID/Aadhaar card.

  4. You must also upload a letter from your employer or company or store owner.

  5. Click the checkbox asking for your confirmation.

  6. Now, click submit button.

After submitting your details, you will receive an e-pass number.

Some people initially reported issues with the Delhi government website while applying for e-passes, but now the website is working. Some users also said their e-pass requests were denied without valid reasons, possibly because of a glitch on the website.

The government has made exemptions for certain groups, including pregnant women and sick people, medical personnel, people traveling to and from airports, students taking exams, examiners responsible for exams, judicial personnel, electronic and print media and government officials. However, these persons must carry proof or valid ID when traveling. The lockdown has also made exceptions for inter-state and intra-state movement/transportation of essential goods.
