Del Taco has reportedly left Georgia. The chain’s 11 restaurants in the state suddenly closed this week, according to several local reports.
The chain’s website currently lists 558 locations across 18 states. Georgia is no longer included in this list.
According to Technomic, Del Taco will have 594 locations by the end of 2024, a number that has remained stable over the past five years (in 2019, for example, the chain had 596 restaurants).
The closure comes less than a year after Matadoor Restaurant Group filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. The company, part of Red Door Brands, operates these restaurants in Georgia and 11 more in Alabama.
The chain’s website now lists just one remaining location in Alabama, in Huntsville.
Matadoor said in a court filing in July that the company had struggled since the second half of 2024 due to “unexpected declines in growth, sales and rising operating costs.”
Notably, the closings in Georgia and Alabama come about a year after franchisee Newport Ventures closed 18 of its Colorado stores shortly after filing for bankruptcy. The chain has since reopened at least five of its restaurants.
Del Taco was acquired by Jack in the Box in March 2022 in an all-cash deal worth approximately $585 million. In December 2025, Jack in the Box completed the sale of Del Taco to Yadav Enterprises for approximately $119 million.
“For more than five decades, Del Taco has been a beloved restaurant chain, supported by loyal customers who drive a special and unique culture that continues to differentiate the brand,” CEO Anil Yadav said in a statement at the time. “Our recent acquisition of the Del Taco brand is perfectly aligned with our long-term growth vision, and we are excited to support Del Taco’s next evolution while honoring the amazing legacy that has defined the brand for more than half a century.”
Nation’s Restaurant News reached out to Del Taco for a statement regarding its recent closing.
