Daniel Cormier won’t stand idly by after Nate Diaz verbally attacked him.
Diaz (21-13), who will return to MMA on May 16 against Mike Perry (14-8) on Netflix, blasted Cormier on Theo Von’s podcast this week and criticized his comments, career earnings, accomplishments and more. The two have shared negative comments in the past, but Cormier said he never wanted to take it to another level.

That has changed now, as UFC Hall of Famer Cormier has issued a response, first comparing their careers.
“You lose to 13 guys in the sport of your choice. To me, that’s crazy,” Cormier said on his YouTube channel. “There’s a lot of guys who can’t lose to 13 different guys, especially in the prime of their sport. Come on, that’s crazy. But you want to talk about me, Mr. Champion. I love that I’m the champion. I love that I can commentate.
“Someone has to check on him. At this point, he probably needs a handler because guess what? He could get beat by Mike Perry. I was there when they had to throw in the towel with Josh Thomson. He said, ‘You cried.'” Nate, maybe you should cry more, and then maybe we’ll think you care about winning or losing. Maybe if you cried, Nathan, you wouldn’t be so accepting of failure. ah? Because I cried, because losing to me was like death. That’s why I cry. Don’t cry. You go to the after-party. You go hang out with your friends. On Saturday you’ll be beaten and on Monday you’ll be saying you’re the best in the world. “
The last issue between Cormier and Diaz seemed to stem from a podcast Cormier produced with Ben Askren, in which Diaz was labeled an “average” fighter. Cormier doubled down on the idea, and while he said he wishes Diaz and his family the best and is happy for all the financial success in his career, he noted that records are the ultimate answer.

“You’re angry because someone’s talking about your average,” Cormier said. “The reality is, you’re average. You always have been. But you make a lot of money. That’s fine. But you’re average. You can say whatever you want now, but you can’t change the fact that you can’t go back in time. We can’t go back in time and make you better than you were before. So you keep getting punched in the head.
“You win 21 games and lose 13. To a guy like me, that seems impossible. Maybe not. But to me, it seems impossible. I’ll tell you that to your face.”
