Dak Prescott guarantees 2026 turnaround for Cowboys

The Cowboys missed the playoffs for the second straight season and fifth time in Dak Prescott’s 10 seasons as coach. They haven’t been to the NFC Championship Game since 1995, let alone the Super Bowl. This is the longest championship drought in the league.

Prescott has committed to 2026, though.

We will not return to this place again,” Prescott said Tuesday, via ESPN’s Todd Archer .

The Cowboys were 7-10 last season. They are 6-8-1 on the season and need to beat the Commanders and Giants to avoid back-to-back losing seasons for the first time since 2000-02 when they went 5-11 in three straight seasons.

“I feel like the last few times I’ve been talking about playoff losses,” Prescott said. “Every year has its own troubles. Every year has its own highs, lows, ebbs and flows and everything in between. It’s about controlling what you can do… I try my best to control what I can do and as I get older I think there’s more input, more say and being asked more questions by management. “Maybe there’s more that I can do that’s not just physical improvement, it’s not just improvement in my game, but maybe saying that out loud will help or I think that will help and whatever it takes, I’m going to try my best again and make sure that I influence and encourage other people around me to do the same.”

Even though the Cowboys and their last two opponents have been eliminated from the playoffs, Prescott said he plans to play the final two games.

He threw for 4,175 yards with 28 touchdowns and 10 interceptions this season, earning him his fourth Pro Bowl. However, Prescott only managed two playoff wins. The clock is ticking.

“My success, this honor is 100 percent shared with everyone out there,” Prescott said. “It’s cool to be a Pro Bowler, but at the end of the day, that’s not what we want.”
