The stone and shingle estate at 61 Erie Road in Farmington towers over the Farmington Valley. However, there’s more that you can’t see from the ground.
The property’s main house is more than 12,000 square feet and was built between 2002 and 2007, according to the listing. Features include custom mahogany doors flanked by stained glass, a custom pizza oven, a private balcony, a home gym and a grand foyer. It also has six bedrooms, eight full bathrooms and three half bathrooms. The property is listed for $4 million.

There is an underground tunnel in the basement of the house that leads to a building on the ridgeline of the house. The building, which predates the rest of the property, offers views of approximately 78 miles from Farmington Valley to New York state, the listing adds. William Pitt Julia B. Fee of Sotheby’s International Realty said the decision to build the tunnel stemmed from local regulations that prevented the structure from being moved while the main house was being built.

The property was built for developer and philanthropist Mark Wilson and his wife, Wendy. They decorated the property with three cow statues, including a brown cow created and signed by artist Peter Marks. While the cow statues are not included in the property, the owners are willing to negotiate if anyone wants to purchase them.
