Another candidate has withdrawn his name from the Cleveland Browns’ head coaching search this offseason. However, for the first time in this recruiting cycle, there is one less name on the market, which is good news for Jaguars fans. Jaguars offensive coordinator Grant Udinski has reportedly become the third high-profile candidate to withdraw from consideration for an open head coaching job in Cleveland.
According to NFL insider Adam Schefter, Udinski is no longer involved in the race to be the next head coach of the Cleveland Browns after withdrawing from the pool of candidates. Udinski was recently shortlisted for the job along with Rams passing game coordinator Nate Scherhas, Browns defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz and Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken, but ultimately removed himself from consideration.

Former Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel previously withdrew from consideration for the Browns (and Buffalo Bills) head coaching searches, as did newly hired Baltimore Ravens head coach Jesse Minter. Despite reports of a raise and a new contract that would keep him in Jacksonville through the 2026 season, the Jaguars are not out of the woods yet when it comes to retaining the 30-year-old coordinator. The Buffalo Bills completed their first interview with Udinski for their open head coaching position on Sunday.
It’s certainly a smart (and savvy) move for the young offensive mind to thoughtfully accept his first head coaching opportunity. Considering the Browns’ salary cap situation, front office makeup, and questionable roster prospects, it makes sense that Udinski would relinquish the role until a more favorable landing spot presents itself. Additionally, removing himself will only make him more valuable in future recruiting cycles, signaling to future recruiting organizations (like the Bills) that they, too, are interviewing for ideal matches. Only time will tell how Buffalo’s chances unfold, but for now, this development is good news for Udinski and good news for Jacksonville.
What do you say, big cat country? Will Udinski step into that role with the Bills, or will we see him on the sidelines in Jacksonville in 2026 wearing Duval Til We Die gear? Let us know what you think in the comments below!
