Conservative Christian college in Michigan announces Erika Kirk as 2026 commencement speaker

A conservative Christian college in Michigan has announced the big name for its 2026 commencement speaker.

Hillsdale College announced Friday that Turning Point USA CEO Erika Kirk will deliver the commencement address on May 9. She is the widow of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, who was shot to death during an appearance at a university in 2025.

“Charlie Kirk became a national and international sensation and accomplished something astonishing. His memorial service was watched by tens of millions of the great, the near-great. We loved him because he was, at heart, a student trying to get things done. Erica Kirk was courageous and widowed and intended to continue. We will help her,” said College President Larry Arne.

Erika Kirk earned a bachelor’s degree in political science and international relations from Arizona State University and an LL.M. in American Legal Studies from Liberty University.

“It is an honor to be asked to speak at Hillsdale College’s commencement ceremony. Charlie loved Hillsdale College dearly and was often grateful for its online programs, learning from Dr. Larry Arne and an outstanding faculty committed to truth and the pursuit of wisdom,” Kirk said in a statement. “Hillsdale represents something rare in our time—an unwavering devotion to faith, learning, and sustaining the principles of a free nation. I sincerely appreciate the invitation and look forward to being with all of you. God bless you.”

The college said in a news release that the commencement ceremony will be closed to the public but can be viewed via livestream.
