The Washington Commanders are already dealing with injuries as they take on the Philadelphia Eagles at Northwest Stadium in an NFL Week 16 game. After forcing the Eagles to punt on their first possession of the game, Commanders rookie wide receiver Jaylin Lane returned the punt.
The Eagles arrived quickly and took down Ryan on a punt return, but couldn’t make any progress. However, Ryan received a heavy blow to his lower body and slowly got up. When he did, he walked into the blue medical tent and then into the locker room.

Commanders revealed that Ryan suffered an ankle injury and is questionable to return.
The fourth-round pick out of Virginia Tech has quickly established himself as one of the best punt returners in the NFL. Ryan ranks fourth among all players with 20 or more punt returns, averaging 14.3 yards per attempt, ranks sixth in punt return yards, and is tied with four others for the most punt return touchdowns in the league.
If Ryan is unable to return, it’s unclear who will replace him. Cornerback Mike Sainristil had one completion in a game earlier this season against Miami but fumbled it.
