There’s nothing Washington Commanders quarterback Josh Johnson has seen in 18 NFL seasons. The 39-year-old, who has played with 14 different teams, is in his second with Washington and is expected to make his second straight start in Sunday’s regular-season finale against the Philadelphia Eagles.
The game is in Philadelphia, which means it’s going to be tough. Even though the Eagles have locked up the NFC East and plan to rest some starters, emotions will be running high Sunday following the brawl between Philadelphia and Washington in Week 16 that resulted in the ejection of several players.

Although Johnson has started only 10 NFL games in his career, one of those starts came in 2009 in Philadelphia during his second NFL season. Johnson was with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers when he started the Week 5 game. In the 33-14 loss, he completed 26 of 50 passes for 240 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions.
Johnson is excited to get started and eager to take on the challenge of playing in Philadelphia.
“It’s awesome. Yeah, it’s great to be in the lion’s den,” Johnson said. “Love it and wouldn’t change it. It’s great to end the season with a game of this caliber against this type of team. So, I’m looking forward to it. I’m excited that football is going to be played at the highest level. For us to beat this team, we’re going to have to play at a very high level and I’m looking forward to us going out and playing at a high level.”
Two weeks ago, Johnson played in Week 16 against the Eagles when Marcus Mariota took a hit on the pitcher that required stitches. Johnson was outstanding in last week’s loss to the Cowboys, completing 15 of 23 passes for 198 yards.
