The Cleveland Cavaliers haven’t had the season they want so far.

But on Monday night, they traveled to San Antonio and easily beat the Spurs by 12 points.
This might just be something the Cavaliers have to do for a while.
Because their salary puts them on the second apron, they don’t have many options.
“Patience may be their best friend right now,” ESPN’s Bobby Marks wrote on the X after Monday’s win.

The Cavaliers have made it clear that Donovan Mitchell and Evan Mobley are untouchable in a trade. But that could leave players like Darius Garland, Jarrett Allen and De’Andre Hunter available for trade.

There aren’t many ways for Cleveland to actually get a deal done, though.
Ahead of Monday’s game, Marks wrote:
“Cleveland can choose to be patient and hope that health improves. After using only 23 different starting lineups last season, Cleveland is already 17th through the first 33 games of this season. The second, more challenging path is exploring trades. Cleveland is the only team to cross the secondary tarmac this season, which leaves obstacles in the way. Cleveland is not allowed to recoup more salary, total contracts or send cash in trades, nor can it sign waived players who make $14.1 million annually or more.”
The Cavaliers may just have to ride out this.

At least they proved Monday night that when they’re at their best, they can beat anyone.
