Clemson loses guard Zac Foster to a season-ending injury

Clemson will lose a promising young player as freshman guard Zach Foster was diagnosed with a torn ACL following an MRI Wednesday. The injury occurred during Tuesday night’s win over South Carolina, and the program has not announced a timetable for his return.

Foster was forced to exit the game early with a knee injury just two minutes after coming off the bench. He scored two points before walking to the sideline, where trainers evaluated him and iced his knee near the locker room. Although crutches were brought, Foster was able to walk to the locker room under his own power and did not return to the court.

“This is an extremely unfortunate injury for Zach and our team,” head coach Brad Brownell said in a statement released by Clemson. “Zach is a hard worker and a great addition to our backfield. I know he will be determined as he rehabs and has a very bright future here at Clemson.”

The true freshman has quickly established his role this season, entering the game averaging 7.4 points and 3.1 rebounds per game. He also showed off his strengths earlier this year when he scored 12 points at Alabama. Foster was rated a four-star recruit out of high school, the No. 70 player in the class of 2025 and the No. 11 combo guard in the country, according to 247Sports.

As Foster begins the recovery process, Clemson must now adjust its backfield rotation and focus turns to his long-term health and return to form.
