Clemson basketball bounces back in ACC with a win over Georgia Tech

Clemson men’s basketball continues to redefine what’s possible with its road schedule.

Saturday’s win in Atlanta wasn’t just another result for the league. By defeating Georgia Tech 77-63 at McCamish Pavilion, the Tigers extended their ACC road winning streak to 12 games, one of the longest streaks in league history. That number ties Clemson for fourth all-time and propels the Tigers past North Carolina since the mid-1980s, a benchmark rarely crossed in the ACC record books.

The results also showed Clemson’s ability to adapt. With R.J. Godfrey limited by foul trouble for much of the afternoon, the Tigers relied on balance rather than a single scoring option. Jack Wallin set the tone inside with his all-around performance, finishing with 13 points and 8 rebounds. Nick Davidson scored 13 points while creating offense for the big men in unconventional ways. Ace Buckner and Dillon Hunter performed well on the perimeter and off the bench, combining for 23 points to help Clemson maintain control down the stretch.

The game itself unfolds in waves. At the beginning of the game, neither side was able to open up the gap, and the lead changed hands repeatedly in the opening minutes. Georgia Tech briefly found momentum midway through the first half, but Clemson responded with better ball movement and patience throughout the half. The defining moment before halftime came when the horn sounded and Hunter drained a 3-pointer to give the Tigers a slim advantage heading into the locker room.

That shot flipped the script. Clemson came out of halftime with energy and purpose, running quickly to turn a tight game into a double-digit advantage. The Tigers continually punished Georgia Tech’s interior, combining a strong backfield attack with timely kickoffs to keep the Yellow Jackets off balance. Every time Tech hinted at a response, Clemson responded with another clinical possession or a timely outside shot.

The inside scoring once again illustrates this point. Clemson has made a habit of owning the paint this season, and Saturday was no different. The Tigers have now won 17 of 21 games, a trend that continues to propel them to success in conference play as they average nearly 34 points per game in the paint.

With the win, Clemson improves to 17-4 overall and 7-1 in the ACC, further solidifying its lead in the conference standings. The Tigers will now enjoy a short break before returning to Littlejohn Stadium to face Pittsburgh on Jan. 31, with ACC Network scheduled for noon coverage.
