Jones joins the Citadel as part of the 2023 recruiting class. During his freshman season, the 6-foot-1, 175-pound Jones appeared in 11 games and had 23 tackles. He earned the starting cornerback spot in 2024 and recorded 30 tackles, one sack, one forced fumble, eight pass breakups and three interceptions before being named a Phil Steele All-Conference fourth-team defensive back.

In addition to playing football for The Citadel, he ran track and field for the school. He is the Southern Conference champion in the 100 meters and 200 meters during the 2025 outdoor track and field season.
With his addition, Rutgers adds another cornerback for the 2026 season, just like Zahmir Dawud, who was acquired earlier from Villanova. Jones is the 10th transfer portal addition to the 2026 class. The Cavaliers hope his elite speed can help him make the jump to the Big Ten level.
