Pedro Neto has been suspended for one match and fined £70,000 for inappropriate behavior during Chelsea’s Premier League match against Arsenal on March 1, the FA announced on Friday.

After receiving a red card against Arsenal, the Football Association accused the player of misconduct by failing to leave the pitch in time and/or using abusive language towards match officials, a charge he admitted.

Following the hearing, the Independent Regulatory Commission imposed sanctions of a one-match ban and fine, with written reasons subsequently given.

Neto served a one-match ban last week after missing Aston Villa’s game due to Arsenal’s red card, but he will now also miss this weekend’s game against Newcastle United.

The winger did feature in Chelsea’s 5-2 win over Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday, but that appearance could ultimately lead to another suspension.

UEFA launched disciplinary proceedings against Neto after he pushed a ball boy during a Champions League match, citing “unethical conduct” by the player. UEFA confirmed that their disciplinary body will make a decision on the case in due course.

Neto has apologized for the PSG incident, saying: “That’s not who I am. In the heat of the moment, I wanted to apologize. I gave him my shirt. I’m really sorry – I felt I had to apologize to him.”

“Finally he [the ball boy] I laughed, gave him the shirt, and said sorry to him about 35 times. He could see what was happening and be satisfied with the situation. “

If UEFA intends to ban Neto from the return match, they have until Tuesday to conclude the disciplinary process. With Chelsea trailing 5-2 before the second leg, any delay in UEFA’s investigation could result in Neto being banned next season.
