In a recent report, journalist Graeme Bailey claimed that Chelsea are in the race for Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams. It has been mentioned that the Blues will compete with Arsenal, Barcelona, Liverpool and Manchester United for the Spanish wide player next summer.
Williams’ impressive record in La Liga
Williams has had a good season with the La Liga club as he produced a string of productive performances in the final third. The Spanish wide player has played 26 games for Athletic Bilbao this season, scoring 4 goals and providing 6 assists in all competitions.

The 23-year-old is one of the best wingers in La Liga at the moment. It’s no surprise, then, that the Blues are keen to sign him this summer.
His current contract at the San Mames Stadium expires in the summer of 2035. Chelsea will therefore have to make a convincing offer if they want to sign him later this year.

What will Williams add to Chelsea boss Liam Roniol’s squad?
Williams is an excellent dribbler who, with the ball at his feet, can create some chances for his teammates to find the back of the net. He can shoot from distance as well as score and create goals from the wing.

The Spanish star is primarily a left-winger but can also play as a right-winger if called upon. However, there are concerns over whether he will be able to cope with the physicality and intensity of the Premier League if the Blues sign him later this year.
Williams will undoubtedly add more pace and goalscoring to Chelsea manager Liam Rogniel’s frontline. He is more than capable of claiming a regular starting spot at the west London club over the next few seasons.
