‘Can’t see the fielder’: Tilak Varma, Jamie Overton clash as Suryakumar Yadav joins in – Watch

Tensions rose at the Wankhede Stadium after a heated on-field argument broke out between Tilak Varma and Jamie Overton during the IPL 2026 match between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings, with skipper Suryakumar Yadav also intervening in the conflict.

The flashpoint came on the last ball of the tenth over during Mumbai Indians’ chase. Tilak pushed a slow pass from Overton to mid-wicket for an initial call of two. However, Suryakumar refused, forcing the batsman to settle for a single. What followed was a heated verbal exchange that quickly caught the attention of players and officials.

Intense midfield exchange sparks drama

When Overton moved over after his follow-up, Tilak appeared annoyed, claiming his view was obscured. “I can’t see the fielder,” the stump microphone picked up the young batsman’s voice, clearly unhappy with the bowler’s movement within his sight.

Overton didn’t hold back, reacting immediately and the situation escalated within seconds. Suryakumar, known for his calm demeanor, made a surprise entry into the exchange and defended his teammates as the confrontation grew more heated.

Sensing tension, the on-field referee rushed in and separated the players before things could get any worse. The match resumed shortly after, but the incident added a heated atmosphere to an already high-stakes clash between the two five-time champions.

CSK dominate, handshake heals

Although a heated argument broke out mid-game, cooler heads prevailed after the game. During the customary post-match handshake, Tilak and Overton briefly embraced, putting the incident behind them in true game spirit.

On the field, however, it was a one-sided contest. Sanju Samson smashed 101 off 54 balls to help CSK post an unbeaten record of 207/6.

MI’s chase never got off the ground and Akeal Hosein’s superb performance of four wickets saw the home team bowled out for just 104 runs and a resounding victory of 103 runs. Contributions from the bowlers, including Overton, ensured that CSK maintained control throughout.

The win lifted CSK to fifth in the table, while MI slipped to eighth in another blow to their record.
