The San Francisco 49ers are heading into an offseason with 28 players set to hit free agency, and general manager John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan must decide what to do with each of them.
While some of these free agents could have a significant impact on prospects for the 2026 season, others may not be much of a problem.

Wide receiver/punt returner Skyy Moore is a 49ers player who is about to hit the market. Let’s take a look at the decision San Francisco must make regarding the 25-year-old.
Skye Moore 2025 Season Review
Moore came to the 49ers (along with a 2027 seventh-round pick in a late-August trade with the Kansas City Chiefs, who sent a 2027 sixth-round pick back to the AFC West). The Western Michigan alum caught five passes for 87 yards and served as their primary returner, averaging 11.6 yards per attempt.
Potential replacement for Skye Moore
San Francisco has a number of potential Moore replacements on its roster, but Jacob Cowing, who is out for the year due to injury, is the most likely to step into those roles.

If the 49ers are looking to replace Moore at receiver and returner in free agency, there are other options. Rasheed Shaheed is probably his top replacement, but Greg Dortch, Devin Duvernay and Kalief Raymond could also fill in.
What free agent deal will Skye Moore get?
Moore will make $1.51 million in 2025, the final year of his rookie contract. Duvernay might be the best comparison for Moore, the Chicago Bears punt returner and wide receiver who has a contract worth $1.17 million this year.
With the projected cap increase, Moore is expected to make around $2 million in 2026.
Should the 49ers re-sign Skye Moore?
Moore is the 10th most efficient punt returner in the league (among those who have returned at least 16 punts). This is a respectable weapon among Special Forces and is very reasonably priced.

If the 49ers are unwilling to pay Shahid’s market price, San Francisco should bring Moore back to a short-term deal and allow him to compete with Cowing for the job throughout the offseason and preseason.
