Caleb Williams’ latest wild touchdown pass to force OT not enough to lift Bears past Rams in divisional round matchup

On Sunday, Caleb Williams made a ridiculous throw that sent the game into overtime.

This is not enough.

Williams led the Chicago Bears to a 20-17 loss to the Los Angeles Rams in a divisional round game at Soldier Field on Sunday night. That leaves the Bears home from the playoffs and sets up an NFC West battle between the Rams and Seattle Seahawks to determine who will play in Super Bowl LIX next month.

Williams faced significant pressure from the Rams defense on a short fourth down near the end of the regular season. The Bears were also down by a touchdown, so this was their last ditch effort to stay in the game. Williams eventually crawled all the way back to the 40-yard line – more than 20 yards from where he fired – and then threw a perfect off-balance hook to Cole Kmet. Remarkably, Kimmet’s throw landed perfectly in the end zone.

NFL Network’s Satcey Dales, who was standing in the corner of the end zone at the time, had an even better angle.

That gave the Bears hope, and they missed the extra point and eventually forced overtime. But midway through overtime, Williams intercepted an interception on a wild scramble by Cam Cole to give the ball back to the Rams.

Harrison Mevis’ 42-yard field goal eventually won the game. The kick helped the Rams advance to the NFC Championship Game, where they will face the Seahawks next weekend.
