Caleb Williams discussed importance of Bears’ fast start vs. Browns

This week, the Chicago Bears locker room has made it a point to emphasize the focus of head coach Ben Johnson and quarterback Caleb Williams on speeding up the offense.

Williams was able to do just that against the Cleveland Browns, the league’s top pass defense, throwing for 155 yards and two touchdowns in the first half while maintaining consistency throughout the game.

In the end, Williams finished with 242 passing yards, two touchdowns (both to receiver DJ Moore) and no interceptions, helping the Bears win 31-3. After the game, Williams talked about getting off to a 14-0 winning start and looking to reduce the Browns’ chances of any positive momentum.

“Yeah, very important,” Williams said. “You want to start games like this every week, but definitely this week. Not letting them get started, not letting them feel some energy or feel like they can — they can beat us, that’s the mentality we have going into this game, to start fast and reduce any positive thoughts that might come to their side, that’s the mentality going into these games.”

The Bears can now only hope they can build on their fast start with Sunday’s win, as the next three games (against the Green Packers, San Francisco 49ers, Detroit Lions) are crucial to their playoff hopes.
