Bruch Prichard On Shorter PLEs In WWE: 10-Match Cards Are ‘Hard To Watch’

In years past, WWE pay-per-views typically featured as many as 10 matches, but in recent years the promotion has significantly scaled back the size of the cards to around four or five matches. Meanwhile, promotions like AEW remain packed with events, with big shows often reaching four hours.

While recently trying to re-watch some of his favorite old WWE PPVs, Bruce Prichard came to appreciate the shorter length of today’s PLE. “Ten matches on one card is hard to watch,” the veteran said on an episode of his “Something To Wrestle” podcast, noting that the cards often feel bloated. “At the end of the night, what will you remember? You’ll probably remember the main event – the last game you saw.”

Pritchard noted that with all the back-to-back matches, it’s easy to forget about mid-card matches that have important angles and storylines. “So I think less is more. But, you know, sometimes – yeah – you have to fight that demon of ‘Oh my gosh, we have to get more people involved!'” the veteran explained. However, Pritchard also noted how the streaming era of radio has changed everything. The way fans consume wrestling has changed, with PPV purchases and time allocation being different than they were a few generations ago. While wrestlers may still long for a “WrestleMania moment,” Pritchard doesn’t think it’s as important as it used to be.
