Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton has turned the franchise around in just three years at the helm. Going from Christmas Day 2022 to Thursday night’s Christmas Day victory, it really signified the amount of work Payton and his staff have put in to make Denver a contender again.
The Broncos helped Sean Payton do what only Bill Belichick had done before, picking up his 13th win of the season. Payton and Belichick are now the only two coaches in NFL history with 13 wins in five different seasons.

“I’ve been blessed to coach and coach a lot of great players,” Payton said after the game when asked about the accomplishment. “There’s nothing better than winning. When I heard the news, I had a hard time figuring out which were the 13-win teams. We’ve got some other teams that were 12 or 11-win teams. I’ve been blessed to have really good players and really good coaches. Some of them are here and they’ve been a part of all of these wins, a part of these wins. Obviously, Bill’s a good guy. Let’s keep it going.”
Payton and his team won 13 games in 2009, 2011, 2018, 2019 and 2025. The previous four all occurred when Payton was at the helm of the New Orleans Saints. Denver has one game left, and Payton has never won 14 games in his entire coaching career.
The Broncos can achieve that dream with a win over the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 18.
