Braves News: Merry Christmas, Offseason dam break coming, more

First of all, let us wish all the staff at Battery Power a Merry Christmas. No matter how you celebrate and/or celebrate, we hope you have a wonderful day with your loved ones!

Well, the dam hasn’t quite broken on the free agency and trade market for much of the offseason, as it’s been a uniquely slow year so far. We’re in the unofficial holiday freeze now, with baseball executives, agents and players looking to spend some time with their families. However, there should at least be some progress soon, with Tatsuya Imai and Kazuma Okamoto’s release deadline set for early January. Those are going to be two important parts of the market and the rest of the market has to adjust at some point. While there may not be any changes over Christmas, there may be some commotion between Christmas and New Year, and we should certainly be looking forward to it as we head into January.

We did make a pretty significant signing on Christmas Eve, the Marlins signed Pete Fairbanks to a one-year contract with $11 million guaranteed and a potential value of up to $13 million. I strongly prefer this deal to Atlanta over the deal they gave Robert Suarez, but maybe they can trade Fairbanks before the deadline now, since that seems to be what Miami is doing.
