Boston 25 reporter says goodbye to station after meteorologist departure

Drew Karedes, a reporter for WFXT-TV (Boston 25) for the past nine years, announced this week that he is leaving the station.

Karedes shared the news on Tuesday, March 5, writing in an Instagram post: “Today my chapter at Boston 25 is coming to an end.” According to a now-deleted employee profile on the Boston 25 website, he joined the Fox affiliate as a field reporter in March 2017.

“Over the years, I have never lost sight of my goals as a journalist. Being able to connect with real people from all walks of life has truly been a privilege,” Karedes wrote in the Instagram caption.

Chief Meteorologist Kevin Lemanowicz made the announcement after leaving the station on February 27.

Boston 25 did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Thursday, March 5.

Prior to “Boston 25,” Karedes reported breaking news at Houston’s CBS affiliate KHOU-TV, according to an archived staff profile from Karedes. He also reported for stations in Las Vegas and Green Bay, Wisconsin.

“It’s hard to believe that it’s been nearly 19 years since I packed up my bags and moved to Green Bay, Wisconsin to start my first job as a reporter,” Karedes said in an Instagram post.

A native of the North Shore, Karedes graduated from Northeastern University and got his first news job as a writer at WHDH-TV (7News) in Boston, his resume states.

Why is Drew Karedes leaving WFXT-TV (Boston 25)?

Although Karedes did not give a reason for his departure in the statement, he wrote: “Please stay tuned for what comes next.”

Karedes, reached via Instagram direct message, declined further comment.

“I will be forever grateful for this role that brought me back to Massachusetts after years of crisscrossing the country,” Karedes said in his Instagram post. “While much has changed, the importance of local journalism has not. Thank you to everyone who trusted me and allowed me to tell their stories.”
