WFXT-TV (Boston 25) chief meteorologist Kevin Lemanowicz is resigning from his position, the station announced.

WFXT said Lemanowicz joined the company when Boston 25 launched in 1996 and has served as chief meteorologist for the past 30 years. The longtime broadcaster is leaving the network next week.

“It has been the honor of my life to serve this community. Thank you for welcoming me into your homes every night,” Lemanovich said in a statement. “As the sole person in charge of this station, I’m proud of what we’ve built here and know it will continue to be successful as I leave behind the best weather team in Boston.”

The station said Lemanovich covered several major weather events during his tenure, including a 2011 tornado in western Massachusetts, a statewide snowstorm in 2015 and flooding in Leominster in 2023.

In 2016, Lemanovich was named a Silver Circle Award recipient by the Boston/New England Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.

“It’s rare that someone dedicates 30 years to a newsroom, and Kevin did it with professionalism, passion and an unwavering commitment to our audience,” Boston 25 News Director Scott Isaacs said in a statement. “We will miss Kevin’s experience and wisdom when it comes to local weather… not to mention, his forecasts are some of the most accurate on the market! He set a high bar that we will always strive to maintain.”

According to Lemanowicz’s biography, before joining Boston 25, the New England native worked at WTIC in Hartford, the New England Weather Service, Fleetwather and WVIT-TV.

Lemanowicz holds a degree in meteorology from Cornell University and is a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) recognized by the American Meteorological Society.

Why did Kevin Lemanowicz leave Boston at 25?

Although the meteorologist described entering “the next chapter” in a statement, the weather station did not provide a reason for Lemanovic’s departure.

“I’ve been blessed to have worked with the best in the industry over the past 30 years,” Lemanowicz said. “Now it’s time for me to look to the future and see what the next chapter holds.”

The Boston 25 has yet to announce who will replace him.

When is Kevin Lemanovich’s last day on the air?

Lemanovic will leave WFXT-TV on Friday, February 27 (Boston 25), the network reports. The news channel said it would “celebrate him next week”.

“Kevin’s commitment to excellence and to the people of New England has defined our weather coverage for decades. We are grateful for everything he has done at Boston 25,” said Todd Brown, the station’s vice president and general manager.
