Bild Borussia Dortmund bosses are reportedly not happy with Nico Schloterback’s comments following Sunday’s 3-2 win over Heidenheim.

The win means Schwarzgelben will close the gap on leaders Bayern Munich to just six points, with Schlotterbeck saying:

“I think as Dortmund we need to start saying ‘We want to be champions!’. We were a bit lucky to win today, but I don’t care. We won!”

Such comments did not go down well with the likes of head coach Niko Kovac, sporting director Sebastian Kehl and sporting director Lars Riken, as it continues to put pressure on them.

In response to Schloterbeck’s comments, Kovacs said:

“I don’t know if Schloti said that word for word. I’m focused on the rearview mirror. I want to see the teams behind us shrink first. We need to get points to stop the teams behind us.”

Kyle added:

“Of course we don’t want to give up second place at the end of the year, that’s obvious. What you have, you want to keep. We have to be realistic about top spot; Bayern does a great job. They usually win the German Championship, the German Cup and the Champions League.”

Important weeks for Dortmund:

Dortmund can close the gap on Bayern to just three points and increase the pressure at the weekend, when they face Wolfsburg on Saturday while the league leaders face Hoffenheim on Sunday. Dortmund will face Bayern Munich at Signal Iduna Park later this month, with a Champions League tie against Atalanta in between.
